GRAINS ACCORDING TO ESSELUNGA Esselunga is the largest bakery in Italy! With a unique network of 135 bakeries and over 2000 people, fresh bread, focaccias, pizzas and many other baked goods are produced daily. The first bakery was opened in 1997 , proving our lasting commitment towards a quality offer for customers, which takes into account, thanks to the work in our production plants, the selection and research of the best raw materials and the seasonality and culinary quality of the territories. Over 1200 bakers work with us, for over 3.7 million customers per year . We use over 29 thousand tonnes of flour per year , producing 19 types of fresh bread as well as pizzas and focaccias . In particular, we choose different types of grains as the base for our flours that we use for the production of our five fresh pasta lines , but also for desserts, soft bread and pizza dough. Since 2003, in Parma, in the “Italian Food Valley”, we have been using cutting-edge plants and the most advanced technologies to provide, in line with the most classic traditional recipes, high-level products that are rich in taste. All this effort would make no sense if it was not combined with a sustainable perspective: this is why, thanks to our collaboration with the Food Bank and the local authorities, we donate leftover fresh bread and food surpluses to those in need, to fight waste and aid solidarity . Thus, bread that is still good but no longer for sale, is given to those who need it most, every day. Our high quality standards are combined with the Italian origin of our grains, selected from the best Italian territories: this is why at Esselunga we are committed to the search for local producers, encouraging innovative agriculture and aiming for a short and traced supply chain. 29 15 Over Over thousand tonnes of flour per year. thousand tonnes of fresh pasta and baked products Each year we produce over 15 thousand tonnes of fresh pasta and baked products, following 9 work lines, of which 4 for bakery and 5 for pasta making.
