THE HAPPY UNIVERSE OF GRAINS TOOLS Welcome to my laboratory! In this space dedicated to children, but also interesting for adults, you can play with food and conduct real scientific experiments. However, there are several dangers in the laboratory and it is good to observe some rules: • Wear a protective gown or apron • Always work attended by an adult • Strictly follow the described procedure. The purpose of this experiment is to understand that grain-based foods and tubers (such as potatoes) are mainly made of starch, a complex carbohydrate source of energy. • Potato • Apple • Oil • Courgette • Pasta cooking water • Tincture of iodine • Small plate • Knife • Cutting board • 2 Glasses PROCEDURE Place the food on the cutting board and, being very careful, cut a thick slice of each. Place the slices on a plate. Take the pasta cooking water, let it cool and put some in a glass (or a clear container). Pour a small of amount of oil into an empty glass.
